New Town Celebration 11 June 2011
A big thank
you to everyone who helped make this year's New Town Community Celebration
such a success. It was a tremendous team effort and thankfully the weather
was kind to us! £723 was raised for Christian Aid's development and emergency
response work in the Less Economically Developed World (enough for 240
mosquito nets!) and a further £1310 for local charities. These included St.
Helena Hospice, Kendall School PTA, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and our own
church funds. It was encouraging to have the involvement of so many church
members and friends and it was great to throw open our doors for the day and
welcome many unfamiliar faces into our church, if only to use the loo or have
a cuppa! 500 people enjoyed the free barbeque cooked by our friends at Saint
Stephens and our links with them have been strengthened as a result.
Hopefully we have made a powerful witness to our growing local community who
seem to enjoy the event year after year.
Many thanks Michael Watkins
